‘Prayer Cells or Home Cells’ are units of a congregation consisting of persons living in a specific geographical location or zone. These persons include members of the church, non-members, neighbours and Christians friends who may be from other denominations. They meet on a week day, weekly or bi-weekly, in different members’ homes where a warm, friendly, non-threatening atmosphere is provided for Christian fellowship.
The main objective of prayer cells is the spiritual nurturing of members through Bible study and prayer. At New Beulah, ‘Prayer Cells’ were introduced in the 1990s by then pastor ‘Bishop Neville Neil. They were re-activated and re-energized by the present minister Rev. Robert Patmore in January 2000. In order to keep the congregation vibrant and effective,then(10) zone were created with a prayer cell led by an elder or steward in each zone.
While the emphasis is on personal spiritual growth, the cells, not only support the mission and evangelism programme of the church, but also effectively organize members to raise funds for local needs. Other activities include:
· Communion visitation accompanied by the Ministers
· Visitation to sick members
